Auburn School District employees raise $68,783 for Auburn Food Bank

Will help cover cancellation of All School Food Drive

Auburn School District employees raised $68,783 for The Auburn Food Bank to help the agency try to make up for funds unable to be raised during the All School Food Drive.

“During this time, we would be in the middle of our All School Food Drive – so with school closed we will not be receiving that – and it usually adds to $95,000 – about half in food and half in dollars,” said Debbie Christian, executive director of the food bank. “We are so grateful for the Auburn School District cares program – where all the staff – are trying to help make up that difference.”

The district set a goal for every employee to participate and for those who can, to donate a day’s pay. The school district posted Monday on Facebook that $68,783 had been raised.

Christian said the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge.

“We are surviving the COVID – with a lot of anxiety and stress,” she said. “Like everyone, right?”
