Olga Diupina, a sophomore at Auburn Riverside High School, spent the week at the state Capitol working as a page for the Washington State Senate. Olga was one of 15 students who served as Senate pages for the second week of the 2017 legislative session.

Sen. Phil Fortunato, who represents the 31st Legislative District, sponsored Diupina.

“Olga was an excellent page, and I’m glad she got to experience the lawmaking process firsthand,” said Fortunato, R-Auburn.

The Senate Page Program is an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.

“I’d like to have this kind of job in the future, so I wanted to learn a lot and be prepared,” Diupina said when asked why she applied for the Senate Page Program.

Diupina, 15, enjoys studying politics, swimming, and participating in her associated student body.

She is the daughter of Aleksandr and Larisa Diupina of Auburn.
