Kids ages 8 and up are invited to learn how to play disc golffrom 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. March 19 at Les Gove Park in Auburn.
The goal of this recreational disc golf clinic is to introduce kids to the sport of disc golf for free. Adults are welcome to participate in the clinic as well for a $5 fee, according to the City of Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation.
Kids who enjoy the clinic are encouraged to sign up for the recreational youth disc golf league run by the city’s parks department. The league is for kids in grades third through eighth, and will begin practices during the first week of April.
Each team in the league will play six matches and will receive a shirt and three discs as part of the $60 registration fee. For more information about the clinic and the league, visit the Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation website.
Disc golf is much like regular golf except instead of using a club to hit a ball into a hole ,players throw a Frisbee-like disc into a target. Just like golf, the player who can get the disc to the target in the fewest throws wins.
Auburn is home to the popular White River Disc Golf Course at Auburn’s Game Farm Wilderness Park. The course consists of both wooded and open terrain and even has a hole next to the White River for an added challenge. The city estimates around 30,000 rounds of disc golf are played at the White River Disc Golf Course each year.
