Dorothy Wilhelm, humorist, newspaper columnist and author unveils her new book, “True Tales of Puget Sound,” on Saturday, April 6, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the historic Neely Mansion, 12303 SE Auburn-Black Diamond Road, Auburn.
Everyone is invited to the book signing/discussion event.
From Octopus Wrestling under the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to the Milton Mule that ran for office – and won – the communities surrounding the Puget Sound have exceptional stories as part of their heritage. Wilhelm promises “stories you’ve never heard before” during her chapter presentations at 1:15 p.m.; 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
Each story in her latest book – in its third printing – was related to her as she produced her TV show in these communities, and the carefully researched facts provide surprising conclusions.
Special guest Elsie Taniguchi, whose story is featured in the book, will share her experiences of spending part of her childhood in a World War II Japanese-American internment camp.
Visitors can tour the landmark mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, see the 1930 Japanese bathhouse and other features. Light refreshments will be served.
The Neely Mansion Association presents the program.
