The bodies of two men missing in the raging Green River after they were swept away by high water two weeks ago were recovered Saturday.

The river was running high, fast and cold because of snowmelt when the men were lost May 17.

Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office said the water level receded last week to allow for recoveries.

One of the victims was a 45-year-old Seattle man who disappeared when his kayak submerged. His body was spotted May 23, but searchers were unable to get to it because of the dangerous conditions.

The body of the other man, a 34-year-old Federal Way rafter, was found under a tree downriver from Flaming Geyser State Park. The man was one of a group of four dumped into the river when their pair of inflatable rafts lashed together flipped near the park. The three others were rescued.

Formal identifications of the bodies were pending.

King County officials reopened the Cedar River to recreation Friday, but the Green River remained closed.

Both rivers were closed the day the men disappeared.
