Box truck a-blazin’ | Fire blotter

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 328 calls for service between Nov. 27 and Dec. 3, among them the following.

Nov. 27

Box truck blazing: 12:33 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a commercial box truck fire at a trucking facility where they got into the empty vehicle and extinguished a mattress fire. The fire is under investigation.

Aid call: 9:44 a.m. (Algona). Firefighters responding to a possible stroke victim determined the unconscious person was suffering from septic shock and running a dangerously high fever, accompanied by a high heart rate and low blood pressure. The firefighters then requested the help of King County Paramedics and cooled the person with ice packs. Medics transported the person to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

Nov. 28

Accident: 5:46 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated four people who’d been involved in a two-car collision, and family transported one of them to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.

Shooting: 4:20 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responding to reports of a shooting found Auburn police officers administering CPR to a person with a gunshot wound. Firefighters and paramedics took over care, including CPR and advanced life support measures provided by the paramedics. The man ultimately succumbed to his injury and was declared deceased on the scene.

Nov. 29

Gas leak: 9:47 a.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to the report of a natural gas leak inside a home and arrived to find a small amount of gas still in the home after the residents had shut off the stovetop burner. Firefighters provided air monitoring after ventilating the home. The residents could return inside safely and were contacted by Puget Sound Energy as a precaution.

Nov. 30

Aid call: 1:02 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a man who was complaining of injuries from an assault. Firefighters treated the man for injuries to his leg before transporting him to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Dec. 1

Overdose: 5:25 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and Auburn police were called to help an unconscious man in a grocery parking lot and administered Narcan to an apparent overdose. The man soon became conscious, refused further care, and left the scene.

Dec. 2

Aid call: 12:55 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a 911 call from a person who’d found an unresponsive man and they joined King County paramedics in treating the man at the scene, then transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for additional treatment.

Dec. 3

Vehicle fire: 6:54 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on northbound SR 167. Firefighters arrived to find an SUV fully involved with fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire and left the scene to the Washington State Patrol.
