Brush fire in median of Highway 167 creates traffic problems

A brush fire snarled traffic on Highway 167 just south of Pacific on Thursday afternoon near rush hour.

Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority and East Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to an approximately one-acre grass fire in the median of 167. The fire quickly moved through the standing grasses between the north and south bound lanes. It took more than 12 firefighters from both agencies to fully contain and extinguish the fire in approximately 40 minutes.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

The VRFA continues to encourage citizens to be extra cautious with the dry conditions the Auburn area is experiencing.
