Some of the finest fine art in the Pacific Northwest is on display at the Puyallup Fair, but artists interested in being part of that elite group must enter online by Aug. 7.
Once registered online, entries are due at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center on Aug. 9-11. A total of $4,300 will be awarded in the water media, oils, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, computer art and miniature categories.
The fair runs Sept. 9-25.
This year’s separate special competition is, “The Wonderful World of Birds.” Any domesticated, exotic or wild birds may be the focal point of an artist’s work. The work must first be submitted in one of the regular divisions (except miniature) to be eligible in this competition. The winner will receive an award of $250.

• A brand new online entry registration makes it even more convenient for photographers to enter the 71st Northwest International Exhibition of Photography competition at the fair, as well as the fifth year for the highly popular Washington State Photographers Exhibition.
Washington residents may enter both contests, but not the same images in both contests.

This contest is recognized by the Photographic Society of America (PSA), and has been held since 1937 (four years out for World War II). Recognition, including a total of 10 PSA medals, four Special Fair Medals for Originality, and four divisions for Special Awards Ribbons. Judges’ Choice Citations will be awarded to 12 outstanding images/prints in each division, and 16 honorable mention citations.
• Breathtaking creativity and exacting handiwork will be ways to impress the judges of this year’s quilt contests at the fair. New online registration will be accepted until 10 p.m. Aug. 24 if quilters want to enter their handiwork in these four divisions: Large Quilt, Amateur/Professional Quilt Collaboration, Professional/Master Quilters, Small Quilt. The ever-popular Quilt Challenge, with a theme of “Snowflake Follies” has an online registration of Aug. 13.
