Kelly Campbell of Auburn shot a 2-over-par 74 on Wednesday, good for third place, six shots back after the first round of the Washington Junior Golf Association tournament in Spokane.
Campbell, the boys 14-15 age division, played his round at the Spokane Country Club, one of three courses being used for the tournament. Charlie Kern of Mercer Island leads with a 68.
Auburn’s Erik Jarvey is part of a three-way tie for 10th after first-round play in the boys 16-17 division. Playing at Manito Country Club, Jarvey fired a 2-over 73, leaving him four shots behind James Van Alstine of Lakewood and Hank Frame of Spokane Valley.
Also in that age group, Charles Lee shot a 77, while Sean Carroll and Keenan Darrow had matching 79s.
Vincent Vu of Auburn, in a three-way tie for 11th among age 8-11 boys. Playing nine holes at Wandermere Golf Course, Vu shot a 44, five shots off the pace.
Jayme Carbon, the only Auburn-area girl to make the state field, shot an 89 at Manito in the first round. Rui Li of Kent, Rachel Choi of Mukilteo and Simone Strauss of Mukilteo are co-leaders at 76.
