Is there any “right” time for a bond or levy? Could there have been better (or worse) timing for a bond/levy vote March 10? Maybe. Maybe not.

First, let’s all make an informed decision and vote. Let’s not vote “no,” just to vote no, or because “we pay ENOUGH in taxes,” or because the wind is blowing wrong that day. This vote directly affects our community in which we live.

If you want to vote no, do it with the correct information. I strongly urge Mr. Wells, Jr., every other Auburn resident or those affected by the bond and levy to attend one of the many coffee hours offered by district principals, a city attorney and project manager. They are more than happy to sit with you, answer questions and engage in debate.

Remember, these are taxes on assessed value, not a flat rate. Although I disagree with the building and expansion of our little town, the more homes and businesses that join us, the more people to pay and hence, we pay a smaller portion of the pie. As I understand it, this is not increasing what we currently pay, but is a replacement or extension of what we are paying. We’re just now paying it a bit longer.

These bonds and levies will help our community with job opportunities as well as contribute to the future of our community by providing a good and safe learning environment for the children (and teachers) who attend these schools. Some of the schools in question that will be rebuilt were built back as early as the 1940s. Shouldn’t all the children benefit and have a school they can comfortably and safely learn in? Some of these schools have not aged well and are past their “repair” stage.

I am not telling you to vote yes. I’m asking that you meet with the leaders of the community, drop them an e-mail, make a phone call, ask your questions, get the answers and make an informed vote.
