Using various media, including collage, ink, acrylic, cold wax, Bonnie Bucknam’s paintings are inspired by her love of travel and the colors and shapes of the natural world.
Her exhibit, Familiar Terrain, is open now through Oct. 27 at the Cheryl Sallee Gallery, inside the Auburn Senior Activity Center, 808 Ninth St. SE. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
An avid traveler and artist, Bucknam beautifully displays the world around her.
“I love to travel. The anthropologist in me is fascinated by other cultures,” she said. “As someone who has always been interested in geology and the history of the Earth, I love seeing the variations in terrain and the spectacular shows created by natural earth processes. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t spend some time thinking about and planning my next adventure.
“My abstract compositions are informed by the colors and shapes of the natural world. I use various media, including collage, ink, acrylic, watercolor pencil, oil pastels, oil, and cold wax to create landscape and abstract works inspired by my love of travel. I strive to convey my response to the character and essence of the places I have lived and visited.”
The Auburn Arts Commission and Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation present the gallery.
