The City of Auburn Arts Commission seeks visual artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional media to exhibit their work at one of three City of Auburn gallery spaces in 2010.

The deadline to be considered is Oct. 12.

Artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply. Teaching artists also are encouraged to apply in order to offer a class coinciding with the exhibit through the City of Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation division as part of the “Art with Artists” class/workshop series.

A selection panel of seven individuals, including art commissioners, community members and artists, will review the artwork and select imaginative pairings for display amongst the three city managed gallery spaces.

City Hall Gallery, Cheryl Sallee Gallery Wall at the Auburn Senior Activity Center, and the Auburn Avenue Theater each features dedicated spaces for the display of two-dimensional artwork.

“It’s a great opportunity, especially for emerging artists, to have a high-traffic area in which artwork can be seen and sold,” said Brian Rasmussen, an artist whose work was displayed as part of the 2009 season.

Depending upon the gallery location, artist exhibitions are on view for one to two months at a time. In addition, artist reception openings can be scheduled and publicity brochures are created and widely distributed.

“We value being able to support art at its source – the artist,” said Linda Elliott, past President of the City of Auburn Arts Commission.

In 2009 the City of Auburn Galleries featured the artwork of 36 local and regional artists.

Full submission guidelines are available at v or call Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, at 253-931-3043.
