The City of Auburn expects to add 62 more downtown permit parking spaces on March 1.
“The interest here is in response to continued inquiries from interested parties. We are looking to meet that need by adding these parking spaces,” said Kevin Snyder, director of public works and community development.
The additions will take the City from its current inventory of 81 to a total of 143 permit parking spaces. In total, that’s 88 spaces for $70, 49 spaces for $45, and six spaces for $30.
None of which are for the use of out-of-towners.
“Parking is only available to Auburn residents and businesses. If you are neither of those, this is not available to you. This has been in place for a while, and is for the direct benefit of Auburn residences and businesses,” Snyder said.
Here is what the City intends to add, where, and for how much:
•43 permit parking spaces for $70 each per month to the parking lot at 11 A St. NW., north of Gustaves Manor, immediately west of Auburn City Hall. The City will keep the parking spaces adjacent to A Street as three-hour parking to serve the immediate needs of people who need to access City Hall or nearby businesses.
• 19 permit parking spaces and two employee parking spaces to 20 Auburn Avenue NE, behind the old Public Health Building, today the site of Auburn’s new Arts and Culture center, at a cost of $45 per space. Two spaces are to be reserved for people who work in the building.
“We are looking to meet the demands of the folks who want to park in our downtown, the folks that want to use it,” Snyder said.
