City to cut downtown parking permit rates

The City of Auburn, by request of the Auburn Downtown Association, has agreed to reduce parking permit rates by 50 percent, effective Sept. 1.

The cost of the permits was $100 per month at the Auburn Station garage and $40 per month at the lot on 2nd and A Street Southeast. Those prices now are $50 and $20, respectively.

The ADA recently met with city leaders with a request to decrease the rates in anticipation of “the impending loss of critical parking as new construction in the downtown nears” by ADA Treasurer John Rottle.

In January, the city partnered with the ADA to offer a limited number of parking permits to commuters in the Auburn Station garage on portions of the second, third and sixth floors as well as a new temporary gravel lot at 2nd and A Street Southeast, north of Herfy’s Restaurant.

The city also offers permits to downtown business owners, employees and residents. Those rates were also reduced from $20 to $10 per month.

Permits can be purchased on the second floor of City Hall, 25 West Main St., during normal business hours and can be purchased by the month for up to a maximum of six months at a time. Maps are included with the permit purchased.
