Communities In Schools of Auburn has hired Dr. Sau-Wah Wong as its new executive director upon the retirement of Arlene Pierini.
Pierini, who served as the organization’s executive director for 16 years, is helping with the transition and plans to remain an active volunteer with the organization.
Sau-Wah brings an extensive background in nonprofit and for profit sectors, including academic and career counseling for university students and strategic planning for IT, health care and sustainable energy companies.
“I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to lead this exceptional organization,” Wong said. “Some children face tremendous hurdles that make focusing on school very difficult. With the support of our board of directors, our dedicated staff and partnerships with local business, schools and stakeholders, I am committed to helping Auburn students and schools reach their full potential.”
Communities In Schools of Auburn works to surround students and families with a network of support that addresses academic and non-academic barriers to learning. Last year the organization served more than 3,600 students in need, provided more intensive case managed support for 531 students and provided enrichment materials, career exploration and more widely available support to 6031 students.
