Communities In Schools of Auburn recently received recognition from the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Metro Region 110 for support to students of Auburn.
The award is presented to a community member or group in recognition of contributions to education. Recipients are non-WASA members and are recognized at the regional level based on their benefit to students; leadership; motivation; success; history of service; recognition by others and cooperation/coordination with a local school district.
Communities In Schools of Auburn helps students in need throughout Auburn and has both after-school and day-time tutoring programs at elementary and middle schools in the downtown core.
Last year, 765 of Auburn students received individualized help and 3,735 students received whole school support. Of those students, 205 received Food To Go (a weekend feeding program in partnership with the Food Bank), 296 were served by Students in Need (direct purchases), 147 received after-school and daytime tutoring, and 117 participated in goal-setting programs.
Ninety-one percent of the students participating in their math tutoring programs showed academic improvement. One-hundred percent of the kindergarten students at Gildo Rey Peer Tutoring program achieved grade-level benchmarks while 100 percent of the peer tutors improved tests scores or grades (students in the lower 25 percent were eligible to participate in this program).
So far this year, CISA has logged 8,000 hours of services to individual students valued at $143,000. They have provided $66,000 worth of donations such as clothing, school supplies and grooming aids to students.
