Multiple agencies battled a three-alarm brush fire in Auburn on July 25, negotiating steep terrain and a wooded environment.
The Valley Regional Fire Authority first announced the existence of a brush fire at 7:39 a.m. July 25 near Green River Road and South 277th Street near the border of Auburn and Kent.
No threat existed to any homes from the fire, located in “very steep and wooded terrain with difficult access,” stated the Valley Regional Fire Authority’s social media. Eight agencies, including the Valley Regional Fire Authority, Puget Sound Fire, Mountain View Fire & Rescue, the Renton Regional Fire Authority, King County Medic One, and more, responded to the scene of the flames.
The agency estimated the fire covered approximately two acres, with the fire located about 1,000 feet from the road.
With access to the fire difficult as a result of the terrain, firefighters utilized progressive hose lays to reach the fire with water.
Crews dug a fire line — a break in the vegetation or fuel of the fire — around falling trees significantly damaged by the fire and the north side of the fire to contain the flames.
As of 9:47 a.m., crews continued to extinguish hotspots.
The Puget Sound Fire Authority announced crews had extinguished the brush fire and all hotspots at approximately 12:11 p.m, nearly five hours following Valley’s initial notice, with the Green River Road anticipated to be reopened within two hours.
No injuries to firefighters were reported in the incident.
