Drivers should prepare for delays on State Route 18 near Tiger Mountain on Friday and Saturday nights as crews finish up emergency repairs on the highway.
SR 18 was reduced to a single lane in each direction since Feb. 3 while crews stabilized a slope under the westbound lane just east of the Holder Creek Bridge.
At 10 p.m. today, crews will reduce SR 18 to a single lane while they remove temporary barrier and restripe the lanes. A pilot car will escort drivers through the work zone. Crews will reopen the roadway to one lane in each direction by 6:30 a.m. Saturday. At 9 p.m. Saturday, crews will again reduce traffic to one lane with a pilot car escort while they reset the permanent median barrier on the highway. By 7:30 a.m. Sunday, crews will reopen the highway in its original configuration, with one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes.
Crews built a large rock and gravel wall to stabilize about 300 feet of the hillside, which slid during heavy rains in January. They also repaired the damaged shoulder and guardrail. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR18/TigerMtnSlope/.
