For the Reporter
Homelessness is a hot topic these days, not only in Seattle, but in Auburn also.
Local parents and educators have joined forces to bring awareness to the issue and create a space for resolution in Auburn. The community is invited to The Face of Homelessness Dinner and Auction at Green River College on Friday, Nov. 4.
The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Mel Lindbloom Student Union Building Event Center, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn,
The semi-formal event hopes inspire changes in Auburn.
“I’ve lived in Auburn for many years and have seen the rising shift of homeless teens in this area. Its time us citizens take an active role in making a difference for our community,” said Michelle McCurdy, one of the event volunteers.
Proceeds of the event benefit Auburn Youth Resources (AYR), an organization that helps and supports homeless youth and young adults throughout many South King County communities.
“It is huge when local citizens join in on such important work like this because we cannot do it alone. We are so grateful for their passion,” said AYR Executive Director Sylvia Fuerstenberg.
The evening program offers:
• Dinner and drinks
• Silent and live auctions
• Speakers Michael Jackson, former linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, Mayor Nancy Backus and an individual who has blossomed from AYR’s support
• Live jazz music by Leah Natale & Ambiance
