DLR Group, a Seattle-based design firm, brought 80 staff members to Auburn for a “Day of Service” at nonprofit Auburn Youth Resources (AYR) on Thursday.
The group of architects, engineers and designers intended to “spruce up” the campus and to ensure that it remains efficient and effective at serving youth and young adults of South King County.
“This is a project that we just couldn’t have done on our own,” said Paula Matthysse, AYR operations director.
DLR group’s core work focuses on providing design improvements that are sustainable for long term. The “Day of Service” projects will enhance the dignity of the youth who participate in AYR services.
“The effort by DLR Group will show the kids who come here for help matter,” Matthysse added.
Projects completed at the AYR campus included:
• A cosmetic facelift to the inside and outside of AYR’s Arcadia Homeless Shelter and Drop-in Center
• Donation of a large freezer for food storage for homeless youth that included home-cooked meals from DLR Group staff
• Installation of an outdoor canopy at the Arcadia shelter to protect youth who are waiting to receive services
• General yard work and cleanup throughout campus
