The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 175 calls for service between Jan. 18 and Jan. 24, among them the following:
Jan. 18
Car accident: 6:04 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters, responding to a two-vehicle accident in the 500 block of West Valley Highway South, treated an elderly man complaining of head and neck pain. Firefighters transported the man to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
Jan. 19
Minor fire: 3 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters, responding to a report of a minor fire in a home arrived to find light smoke caused by cardboard pizza boxes smoldering away in an oven. Firefighters determined the fire was accidental, so they left the home, undamaged, in the custody of its owner. Nobody was hurt.
Jan. 20
Aid call: 8:15 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters hustled to help a middle-aged woman who had fainted and found her lying on the floor, bleeding from the back of her head. Firefighters treated her wound, placed her on a back board and American Medical Response transported her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
Jan. 21
Aid call: 8:19 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics were asked to look in on a terminally ill patient who was facing end-of-life issues. The patient was examined and made comfortable and did not wish to be transported. Firefighters offered the services of the VRFA chaplain, but the patient declined and was left at home.
Jan. 22
Aid call: 12:44 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters helped a woman who was short of breath. Initially, the woman’s dog would not let firefighters near her. After some gentle coaxing, however, the dog was safely removed to a nearby bedroom. Firefighters treated the woman and American Medical Response transported her to ARMC.
Jan. 23
Patient assist: 8:02 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters helped an elderly woman back into bed after she fell to the floor while exercising. The woman did not sustain any injuries in the fall, so firefighters left her at home with her husband.
Jan. 24
Aid call: 3:07 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics examined and treated a young girl for seizures. King County Medics transported the girl and her mother to ARMC.
