A driver lost control of his sports utility vehicle on a rain-slick Auburn-Black Diamond Road late Thursday morning, slamming into a tree and flipping the SUV onto its top, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His vehicle, a Lexus SUV, was severely damaged.
A King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said no citations were issued and didn’t indicate whether the driver was speeding or wearing seat belts. The accident reportedly happened shortly after 11 a.m.
The SUV left a big gash into a large tree that stands in front of Connie Teece’s house. Teece estimated the tree to be at least 100 years old.
“Thankfully, the driver is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” Teece said. “The vehicle, is, of course, totaled. Everything can be repaired, except for my tree.”
Teece said the driver was driving too fast for the wet conditions.
“I know this happens all the time,” she said, “but I thought a timely reminder would encourage people to drive the speed limit on the curvy sections of the country roads in the area.”
