Early morning fire destroys garage in Algona

A fire destroyed a detached garage early this morning at 115 Third Ave. N. in Algona.

A fire destroyed a detached garage early this morning at 115 Third Ave. N. in Algona.

Residents of the adjacent home evacuated safely, and Valley Regional Fire Authority Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to the house.

VRFA crews were dispatched to the fire at 1:02 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a detached garage next to a home. Firefighters quickly directed hose lines on the adjacent residence to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire was confined to the garage with only minimal heat damage to the exterior of the home.

Investigators from the South King Fire Investigation Task Force determined the cause was accidental, and damage is estimated at $200,000.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
