As Auburn’s historic downtown continues to grow and evolve, the community continues to imagine opportunities to revitalize the heart of downtown and the 100-year-old traditional Main Street.
One such idea is a vibrant art-filled Auburn Arts Alley, proposed between the Auburn Avenue Theater and the future Arts & Culture Center.
An initial vision for the project was completed in collaboration with the University of Washington’s Urban Design Program as part of the 2017 Livable City Year with the city of Auburn. The vision is becoming even more tangible as the city considers grant funding for the project from the new 4Culture Creative Consultancies program.
After a competitive first round of grant applications, Auburn was selected to work, with artist Kathleen Fruge Brown on the community outreach and final grant project proposal in hopes of receiving grant funding for some artistic elements of the project.
The city is seeking input from the community as Brown works to design artistic components for the alley, collaborating with local artists and cultural communities.
