Between Feb. 7 and Feb. 14, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 309 calls for service, among them the following.
Feb. 7
Aid call: 6:41 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters evaluated and treated an Auburn senior citizen who had fallen and hit his head, and a private ambulance transported him to Valley Medical Center.
Feb. 8
Residential fire: 7:11 p.m. (Federal Way). A VRFA unit responding as mutual aid with South King Fire to a house fire found a lot of flames on the second floor. The VRFA unit helped coordinate fire ground units and command functions. Personnel treated a resident for minor cuts to the hand, but could not find a dog that had been in the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Feb. 9
Vehicle vs. pedestrian: 3:02 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One responded to a report of a man who had been struck by a vehicle as he was crossing a road, sustaining multiple injuries. On arrival, firefighters and paramedics found the man down in the roadway and unconscious, so they evaluated and packaged him before moving him to the back of the ambulance for further stabilization. Once the man was stabilized, paramedics and firefighters transported him to Harborview Medical Center’s emergency room.
Feb. 10
Aid call: 9:09 p.m. (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters evaluated a woman who had fallen and hit her head and determined that she required stitches. A private ambulance then zipped her off to MultiCare Covington.
Feb. 11
Car fire: 1:39 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of a car on fire with exposures found a vehicle that was fully involved with fire about 10 feet away from gas pumps. Firefighters from Puget Sound Fire arrived first and attacked the fire with the help of a VRFA unit. The VRFA said the fire appears to have started in the engine compartment. Photos were taken and the car was towed away.
Car fire: 6:54 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a fully involved car fire in the westbound lanes of Highway 18. Firefighters extinguished the fire and released the scene to Washington State Patrol. There were no reported injuries.
Feb. 12
Apartment fire: 10:39 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to an automatic fire alarm at the Auburn Glen Apartments found light smoke coming from one unit, so they got in and found a sprinkler-controlled fire in the bedroom. Firefighters ventilated the unit with an electric fan, overhauled the area, and shut down the sprinkler system. The fire was contained to the bedroom. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents to find accommodations. The fire is under investigation.
Feb. 14
Accident: 5:49 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a 2-car accident assessed one occupant for minor injuries before a family member drove her to a hospital.
