A fire destroyed the garage and racing vehicle of an Algona couple Sunday afternoon, but fortunately no one was injured and the fire did not spread to the residence.
Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of Main Street in Algona at approximately 1:45 p.m. and saw a large column of smoke from a few miles away. When they arrived, they found a detached two-car garage fully engulfed in flames. They quickly extinguished the fire, with the help of crews from South King Fire & Rescue.
The fire completely destroyed the approximately 600-square-foot garage and most everything in it. The contents included a vehicle used for racing, racing fuel and propane tanks. Two vehicles parked outside the garage sustained some heat damage but were saved.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire.
The fire is under investigation.
