Between July 1 and July 7, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 416 calls for service, among them the following:
July 1
Blazing clothes: 8:59 a.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to a report of debris on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex and found a pile of burning clothing, which they extinguished. There were no additional hazards.
July 2
Vehicle fire: 5:44 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters hustling to a sedan on fire on the side of a road came upon a fully involved car fire, which was extinguished without problems. The cause of the fire is unknown.
July 3
Aid call: 1:24 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responded to reports of two people possibly overdosing. They arrived to find two people with pulses but unresponsive. Firefighters and paramedics treated the patients on scene before a private ambulance transported them to a local hospital for observation.
July 4
Residential fire: 11 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and South King Fire responded to a house fire and found a home with fire on the side of the house and in the attic space. Firefighters entered the home to search for victims and extinguish the fire. They put out the fire and confirmed that the house had no occupants. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Accident: 7:30 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responded to the scene of an accident, where they found a vehicle with heavy damage and one person who had suffered critical injuries. Personnel treated the person on scene, and then paramedics transported the injured party to Harborview Medical Center. A flatbed tow truck was also involved and ended up in the adjacent retention pond. The accident had torn the fuel tank from the truck, and it had spilled fuel into the pond. No one in the tow truck was hurt. Personnel contacted the Department of Ecology about the spill.
July 5
Wildland fire: 1:23 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a reported fire in the wilderness near Game Farm Park and the Stuck River. Although the fire was identified early in the morning, access difficulties extended the duration of the event. Firefighters and senior leadership developed a strategy, which they implemented around 5 a.m. To mitigate the fire, personnel used a raft to cross the Stuck River so they could reach it. The fire covered about 2 acres and did not threaten any homes. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and took measures to ensure it would not reignite.
July 6
Aid call: 2:28 a.m. (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters responded to man who had consumed an excess amount of tequila. The man had no other complaints, and firefighters evaluated him before a private ambulance zipped him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for continued care.
July 7
Aid call: 12:05 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters treated man who had dislocated his knee, and then a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
