Between Oct. 27 and Nov. 1, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 198 calls for service, among them the following:
OCT. 26
Aid Call: 7:30 p.m. (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to a home in Pacific, where a man lay in bed, clutching his agonized abdomen. He said he had been drinking beer and eating spicy food all day at a Mexican restaurant as he watched the Seahawk’s game, and that he had a long history of similar abdominal pain. Personnel checked him out and determined his condition was stable. The man’s brother and wife agreed that it might be a good thing to drive him to the emergency room at Auburn Regional Medical Center.
OCT. 27
Motor Vehicle Collision: 11:54 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responded to the 300 block of Auburn Way South to a two-car crash where they found one vehicle lying on its side and a second, in the intersection, with significant damage to its front end. Two people sustained non-life threatening injuries and a third escaped injury. VRFA personnel plucked the injured people from their cars and treated them for their injuries. Auburn police investigated the crash.
OCT. 28
Illegal Burn: 4:43 p.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to a report of an illegal burn on Valentine Avenue Southeast and found a pile of furniture debris four feet in diameter ablaze in the backyard of a residence, 10 feet from the corner of the house. Firefighters snuffed out the fire using the owner’s garden hose. The owner then got a talking to about the outdoor burning ban, and how it is always a big no-no to burn debris of that type. She got a further talking to about the danger of having such a fire so close to her house.
OCT. 29
Medical Aid Call: 9:15 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel responded to a possible amputated toe in southeast Auburn, where a six-pound tin can had fallen on a one year-old boy’s foot, partially cutting off the right big toe. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital.
Motor Vehicle Accident: 11:15 a.m., (Pacific). Responding to a car accident, VRFA personnel found a heavily-damaged vehicle that had driven into a parked commercial truck trailer. VRFA personnel treated the person in the car for minor injuries and stabilized the cars until the tow truck arrived.
OCT. 31
Water Rescue: 3:15 a.m., (Redondo Pier – Automatic Aid). Water rescue personnel from the VRFA and Renton Fire Department helped with a potential water rescue near Redondo Pier, where a woman had jumped into the water to commit suicide. Fortunately, the woman agreed to come to the shore after considerable coaxing from the fire fighters, and no one else had to enter the water.
NOV. 1
Motor Vehicle Accident: 1 p.m., (Auburn). Aid 31 and Engine 31 responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 800 block of 45th Street Northeast. VRFA personnel treated two adults who had sustained minor injuries and one young boy who was uninjured. Both adults were transported to the hospital for further evaluation of their injuries. Personnel called the young boy’s mother, and she picked up her son.
NOV. 2
Dumpster Fire: 7:10 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel responded to a report of a Dumpster fire at a school in the 1000 block of 24th Street Northeast and found a smoldering fire near the building. Firefighters snuffed out the conflagration with water from the fire engine then contacted school security. A preliminary investigation pointed to arson.
Chest Pain: 10:21 a.m., (Pacific). VRFA personnel and Medic 6 responded to a report of chest pain at a residence on Milwaukee Boulevard South. VRFA personnel evaluated the woman and Medic 6 treated her for a possible heart-related condition. Medic 6 transported the woman to a local hospital.
