Personnel from the Valley

Regional Fire Authority responded to 185 calls for service between June 10 and June 15, among them the following:

JUNE 10

Aid call: 5:40 p.m., (Lea Hill) 5:40 p.m. Engine 34 responded to a report of a male down with a knee injury on the football field at Mountain View High School. VRFA personnel used a vacuum splint to stabilize the guy’s dislocated knee and American Medical Response transported him to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

JUNE 11

Commercial fire: 12:21 p.m. (Auburn). VRFA units were dispatched to a reported commercial fire in the 1500 block of 31st Street Southeast. Fire units found smoke and fire coming from the front of the apartment unit and found a smoke inhalation victim with minor burns. VRFA crews quickly extinguished the fire and searched the unit for occupants and fire extension but found neither. VRFA personnel treated the fire victim and Medic 6 transported that person to ARMC. A fire marshall arrived and started the fire investigation with the help of the Engine 321 crew. Upon completion of the fire investigation, the VRFA released the property back to the owner.

JUNE 12

Aid call: 8:50 a.m. (Algona). Engine 38 responded to a report of respiratory distress. Upon arrival, Engine 38 found an elderly woman with end-stage cancer and respiratory distress. Engine 38 worked with the daughter and hospice, via telephone, to determine the patient’s wishes and the appropriate course of action. Engine 38 left a full oxygen bottle with the family and nurse to comfort the patient until a supply of oxygen was delivered.

JUNE 13

Motor vehicle accident: 9:10 a.m., (Kent). VRFA units responded with units from Kent Fire Department to a motor vehicle accident at 277th and West Valley Highway The accident involved two vans who “T boned” at what appeared to have been a high rate of speed. A total of seven patients were treated, including three who were taken to Harborview Medical Center owing to the gravity of their injuries.

JUNE 14

Motor vehicle accident:

7:22 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA

units were dispatched to a reported injury accident

at 10th & I Street Northeast.

On arrival, crews found a

“T-Bone” accident in the intersection. VRFA personnel treated one driver for neck pain then transported him to ARMC via ambulance. The VRFA later turned the scene over to the Auburn Police Department for investigation.

JUNE 15

Aid call: 7:50 a.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded for a reported unconscious female. Upon arrival, Engine 38 found a middle-aged female in insulin shock. Engine 38 managed the patient’s airway until Medics arrived. Engine 38 assisted Medic-6 with treatment. The patient was eventually aroused and left at home with family members.
