The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 184 calls for service between Dec. 14 and Dec. 20, among them the following:
Dec. 14
Water leak: 4:51 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters secured a hot water tank, thereby helping a resident deal with a broken bathroom water pipe. The resident had captured most of the leaking water in a large bucket.
Dec. 15
Service call: 10:36 a.m., (Auburn). The distracted driver of a dump truck smacked into a power pole. Firefighters secured the area, contacted Puget Sound Energy for repair and turned the scene over to the Auburn Police Department.
Dec. 16
Fire alarm: 3:10 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters responding to the 300 block of 3rd Avenue South for an automatic fire alarm determined that an overly sensitive smoke detector had activated when the home owner lit a fire in his wood stove.
Dec. 17
Car versus pedestrian: 7:43 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics responding to the 800 block of 4th Street Northeast for a car-versus-pedestrian accident found an Auburn High School student after being struck by a slow moving vehicle. Firefighters evaluated the girl, secured her to a backboard and transported her to Auburn Regional Medical Center, where she was later released with minor injuries.
Dec. 18
Aid call 7 a.m., (Auburn): Firefighters treated and stabilized an elderly woman’s hip injury. American Medical Response transported the senior citizen to ARMC for further evaluation and treatment.
Dec. 19
Aid call: 11:12 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters arrived at a head-on collision at the intersection of Auburn Way South and M Street Southeast. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, and one patient complained of neck and back pain. American Medical Response treated and transported the injured person to ARMC.
Dec. 20
Aid call: 7:40 a.m., (Lea Hill). Valley Com dispatched firefighters and King County Medics to an Auburn senior whose wife had found him found unconscious on the floor. Firefighters initiated CPR and defibrillation protocols. Medic 6 and VRFA personnel performed advanced life support measures. The man could not be resuscitated.
