The Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) responded to 203 calls for service between June 8 and June 14, among them the following:

June 8

Brush fire: 1 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched VRFA, South King Fire and Rescue and Fire District 44 firefighters to a brush fire on Highway 18. Crews found an aggressive fire burning up a hillside in thick bushes and trees. Firefighters fought the fire from the highway as South King firefighters fought it from above. Fire District 44 used its water tender at the scene to supply the VRFA units. Nobody was hurt, and no buildings were threatened.

June 9

Aid call: 10:39 a.m., (Auburn). Personnel responding to a complaint of neck pain found a person who had sustained a gunshot years ago and assumed that injury was causing his pain. Personnel treated the patient and he was transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC) for evaluation and treatment via the VRFA.

June 10

Brush fire: 3:13 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a brush fire at 601 Oravetz Road Southeast and found a 100-foot-by-five foot smoldering grass fire. Fire personnel quickly snuffed the fire. The South King Fire Investigation Task Force investigated.

June 11

Aid call: 9 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched Engine 31 to the Sounder Station to help an injured man. The man, who was in police custody, was found to have minor facial injuries. Firefighters treated him at the scene and police kept him.

June 12

Motor vehicle collision: 5:21 a.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 and Aid 32 responded to a report of a motor-vehicle collision on Southbound Highway 167. Arriving units found a girl who had lost control of her vehicle and rolled into the median. The girl was the sole occupant and got herself out of the car before help arrived. Personnel conducted a patient exam and found no signs of injury. The girl said that she had been wearing her seat belt and admitted that it had saved her from injury. Her father picked her up at the scene.

June 13

Drowning: 9:15 p.m., (Maple Valley). Valley Com dispatched the VRFA Dive Unit to Lake Wilderness in Maple Valley for a drowning. Units on scene asked for VRFA divers to help them with an 18-year-old Kent man who had reportedly drowned while swimming in the lake. VRFA divers located the young man within five minutes of the diver entering the water. Divers brought him to shore, and Maple Valley and Renton fire units performed CPR. King County Medic One paramedics provided advanced life support, but owing to the time delay of the first 911 call the man died at the scene.

June 14

Motorcycle collision: 5:30 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched personnel to a car-versus-motorcycle crash. Personnel evaluated the driver of the motorcycle for injuries. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist had struck the car at about 30 mph. Fortunately, the patient’s injuries were minor and, following treatment from VRFA firefighters and King County Medic One, American Medical Response transported the patient to ARMC.
