The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 201 calls for service between May 18 and May 24, among them the following:

May 18

Aid call: 9:50 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to an overdose call found a man they recognized as possibly endangered by a cardiac-related event secondary to the overdose. Firefighters treated and stabilized the man on location and an ambulance transported him to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

May 19

Motor vehicle collision: 8:19 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched Engine 38, Engine 32, Aid 32, Battalion 31, King County Medic 6 to a two-vehicle, head on collision in the 5500 block of A Street Southeast, where VRFA Units found four patients. One victim, an 18-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters extricated one critical patient, a woman, using a rescue tool, then King County Medic One transported her by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center. Two other people were transported by ambulance to ARMC.

May 20

Asthma attack: 2:43 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a report of a young man suffering a possible asthma attack. Firefighters found the man breathing with severe difficulty. Firefighters and King County Medic One evaluated him and an ambulance transported him to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

May 21

Aid call: 7:28 a.m., (Lea Hill). Engine 34 responded to Green River Community College to a report of injuries from a “self-propelled vehicle.” Engine 34 arrived to find an engineering student who had been riding a bicycle made primarily of paper. The bicycle broke, causing minor injuries to the rider, who turned down an offer of transport to the hospital.

May 22

Automatic fire alarm: 2:33 p.m., (Lea Hill). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to an automatic fire alarm at Green River Community College. Firefighters found an alarm bell ringing with the building already evacuated. Security personnel were on location, conducting a school-wide evacuation drill, and there were no problems.

May 23

Aid call: 11:28 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters responded to an old woman complaining of chest pain. Crews helped Medic One personnel to treat the woman, whereupon an ambulance transported her to ARMC for further treatment.
