The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 171 calls for service between Oct. 5 and Oct. 11, among them the following:
Oct. 5
Fire alarm: 12:42 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters shut down the fire sprinkler system at a building on the 300 block of South Division Street because a damaged sprinkler head was spraying water. Firefighters instructed maintenance personnel to perform a fire watch until the system could be restored.
Oct. 6
Aid call: 1:53 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a girl who had been hit in the head by a baseball bat after it slipped from a batter’s hand while the person was taking a swing on the diamond at Mt. Baker Middle School. Medic 6 transported the girl to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in stable condition for further evaluation.
Oct. 7
Bike accident: 2:28 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a teenager at Green River Community College who had fallen from his bike and hit his head on the ground. The teen, who had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, complained of a headache and dizziness. American Medical Response transported him to ARMC for evaluation and treatment.
Oct. 8
Sports injury: 3:53 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters performed an examination on a young football player who had collided with another player and hurt himself. After stabilizing the young man, American Medical Response transported him to ARMC.
Oct. 9
Motor vehicle accident: 5 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a two-vehicle, T-bone collision at the intersection of 21st and A Street Southeast. Firefighters arrived to find moderate damage to both cars and treated one female. American Medical Response transported her to ARMC for further evaluation.
Oct. 10
Patient assist: 7:26 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters helped a patient who had fallen and become wedged between a bed and a wall. A complete patient exam revealed no signs of injury and firefighters left him or her at home.
Oct. 11
Aid call: 9:50 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters examined a girl who had fallen and hit her head on a wall. The girl was alert and crying in her mother’s arms when firefighters arrived. Firefighters treated the girl and a private automobile brought her to Valley Medical Center.
