The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 160 calls for service between Sept. 7 and Sept. 13, among them the following:
Sept. 7
Electrical fire: 12:11 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters hustled a microwave out of a home after the thing caught on fire. Thankfully, the home’s occupant moved quickly and snuffed the fire with an extinguisher so it could do no more harm.
Sept. 8
Aid call: 12:50 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters helped a youngster with a bad cut to the hand. An ambulance brought the child to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC) for follow-up treatment.
Sept. 9
Aid Call: 8:07 p.m., (Lakeland). A computer desk accidentally hit a girl on the forehead and cut her. Firefighters treated the wound, and an ambulance carted the girl and her dad off to ARMC.
Sept. 10
CPR: 4:47 p.m., (Algona). Engine 38 and Medic 6 were evaluating a man with chest pain when his heart stopped. Firefighters gave the man two quick shocks from an automated external defibrillator and his heart started beating. The man was talking to firefighters before an ambulance took him to ARMC.
Sept. 11
Aid call: 10:11 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters used oxygen therapy to treat someone who was short of breath; then an ambulance drove the person to Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
Sept. 12
Aid call: 8:47 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters flushed a woman’s eyes for 15 minutes to rid them of bleach that had accidentally splashed into them. An ambulance brought the woman to ARMC so the docs could look at her.
Sept. 13
Aid call: 7:04 p.m., (Auburn). Aid 32 went to the 2400 block of Auburn Way South to help a man hurt in a fight, but the man did not want help.
