Three minors and one adult suffered injuries in a shooting in Auburn on July 28 after suspects fired at individuals exiting a Metro bus, firing nearly 100 rounds.

According to Auburn police investigators, the shooting “appeared to be a planned ambush and not a random attack.”

According to the department, Auburn police officers responded at around 6:40 a.m. to the 2900 block of M Street Southeast following report of a shooting.

Footage released by the department showed four masked individuals emerging from the parking lot of the Cedar Pointe Apartments at 2935 O Street Southeast in Auburn with handguns after a group of five people exited a King County Metro bus.

The four suspects fired at the bus riders, with the five riders fleeing the scene as the suspects chased with guns raised.

According to the department, the investigation determined one of the bus riders was armed and returned fire as they fled.

Following the shooting, the shooters retreated back into the apartment complex parking lot. According to the department, three minors and one adult out of the five bus riders suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Kolby Crossley, public information officer for the Auburn Police Department, said he lacked information regarding the specific injuries in the incident.

Investigators believe the suspects utilized illegally modified pistols converted into fully automatic handguns. According to the department, officers found “nearly 100 shell casings” south of the intersection upon arrival at the scene.

Law enforcement collected firearm parts, holsters, bullets and ammunition, shell casings, and more as evidence at the scene, according to the department’s public information log.

The Auburn Police Department has no updates regarding the shooting as of July 30, Crossley stated. Auburn police requested public assistance for any information regarding the July 28 shooting.
