Kandy Gilbert likes a good show.
Auburn High School’s choral instructor has assembled a five-choir holiday program lineup for the public to enjoy.
The curtains for the school’s winter choral concert will open at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Main St.
It is free to the public.
All told, approximately 160 students from five choirs – concert, chamber, cantabile, jazz and show – will perform holiday music with their own different style.
“It’s a lot of work,” said Gilbert, in her 12th year as the school’s choir teacher. “For me, it’s not much different (than previous concerts). I think my whole program is different than many choral programs in that we do it a little bit bigger.”
The large, show choir flavor stems from Gilbert’s Oklahoma roots. There are few shows of this kind in Washington.
Gilbert also will be singing at her own concert for the first time, performing a long melody of “Jingle Bells.”
In addition, students will conduct a bake sale and live action, proceeds of which will benefit the student scholarship fund.
