A 15-year-old girl remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a sibling accidentally shot her Feb. 5 at their home on Auburn’s west hill, according to Auburn Police.
According to Auburn police, the incident happened at about 7 p.m. at a home in the 5100 block of 297th Street and involved the girl’s 13-year-old brother.
According to Auburn Police Cmdr. Mike Hirman, the boy later told police he had unloaded a handgun and was playing with it when it went off and hit his sister in the neck.
Will charges be filed?
«That’s the big question right now. If it were accidental, which it appears to be right now [and the girl dies], then we are looking at manslaughter 1 or 2. We are also looking at how the gun came to the house, did the boy have permission to possess it, and other matters,” Hirman said.
