The last thing Auburn needs is to discourage new businesses, so I’d like to respond to
B. O’Kelley’s nasty letter (Oct. 22) about Auburn’s newest restaurant, Chicago Willy’s.
It has tropical palms in the landscaping and bright, eye-catching colors on the building with a really cool cartoon mural depicting Chicago Willy in his jalopy, leaving Wrigley Field and heading to the beach. It’s fun and vibrant.
I agree, the old hospital parking garage colors were weird because it was a huge hospital parking garage. But Chicago Willy’s colors are just right for a gourmet hamburger house.
Does everything in Auburn have to be boring beige or bland gray to be acceptable? It’s too bad O’Kelley’s snooty “taste” will prevent him/her from getting a taste of what’s cookin’ inside. I don’t think Chicago Willy’s needs some cranky crumudgeon bringing him down anyway.
