Gov. Chris Gregoire’s office announced Tuesday the appointment of Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis to the Green River Community College Board of Trustees.
The appointment fills a vacancy left after Trustee Larry Brown was appointed in November by Gregoire to the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
“I see GRCC as a way in Auburn for people to get a step up,” Lewis said. “It’s a pathway to success.”
Lewis has served as Auburn’s Mayor since 2002 and on the City Council since 1998. He serves as Chair of the Association of Washington Cities Economic Development and Infrastructure subcommittee, as Vice Chair of the King County Regional Policy Committee and of the South County Area Transportation Board.
Lewis also serves as a member of the Valley Communications Center, Suburban Cities Association and the Green River Valley Flood Control District. His national involvement extends to the U.S. Conference of Mayors Transportation Committee, National Amtrak Advisory Board and the International Trade Committee.
“Mayor Lewis’s wealth of experience, dedication to economic development, commitment to community, and focus on education at all levels will complement and provide a valuable perspective to our Board,” said Dr. Eileen Ely, GRCC president.
Lewis joins former Auburn school superintendent Linda Cowan, local attorney Tom Campbell, Sherry Gates of Kent and former State Sen. Claudia Kauffman on the five-member board.
