HazMat scare forces evacuation of Auburn Post Office

A hazardous materials scare led to an evacuation of the Auburn Post Office on Monday morning after a postal worker said he became ill from being exposed to an unknown substance.

A hazardous materials scare led to an evacuation of the Auburn Post Office on Monday morning after a postal worker said he became ill from being exposed to an unknown substance.

Valley Regional Fire Authority personnel responded to the scene, 11 3rd St. NW, around 11 a.m., according to Kimberly McDonald of the VRFA.

The man was treated. HazMat quarantined and examined about 20 other employees as a precaution.

Crews determined the substance was not harmful.

One person was taken to Auburn Regional Medical Center.
