Auburn School District Superintendent Dr. Kip Herren will join Communities In Schools Puyallup executive director Chris Loftis as a guest bus driver on a suspended school bus at the Puyallup Fair on Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Herren is asking the Auburn schools and community to help pay his way off the suspended bus. His goal is to raise $396 in two hours or less for CIS Auburn.
The “Boosted Bus,” located in front of Sillyville next to the Big Red Petting Barn, is an old Auburn school bus suspended in the air for the entire 17-day run of the Puyallup Fair (Sept. 5-21). Loftis actually is living in the bus for the 17-day fair. Herren will join him as a guest bus driver to interact with the crowd below through a closed circuit TV.
Guest bus drivers such as Herren will spend a few hours with Loftis in order to raise awareness about CIS and to raise funds for their local schools. Since Loftis will be living in the suspended bus for a total of 396 hours, all guest bus drivers are required to spend time in the bus until they reach $396 in donations for their local CIS chapter. “Stay or pay” is the motto.
CIS Auburn is part of the National Communities In Schools Network, embracing the CIS mission to champion the connection of community resources with schools. Through clothing and book drives, scholarships, after-school programs and academic performance incentives, CIS Auburn has helped thousands of kids in the past 18 years succeed in school and prepare for life.
