Auburn Deputy Mayor John Holman has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2015 Community and Economic Development Steering Committee.

The committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. NLC President Ralph E. Becker, mayor of Salt Lake City, recently The announced the appointment.

“Auburn has weathered the great recession and has come out the other side fiscally sound,” Holman said. “The forecast is for a growing economy over the next two years. Auburn is well poised and ready to take advantage of a rebounding economy. This is a time to embrace innovation and re-commit to responsible growth and job creation.”

Holman will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the administration and at home. This is his third year on the committee and second year on steering committee.

The chair of this year’s committee is Mike Wojcik, councilmember, Rochester, Minn. Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Craig Thurmond, mayor, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Johnny DuPree, mayor, Hattiesburg, Miss.
