Kennedy Catholic High School has announced a technology education partnership with Seattle App Academy.

Seattle App Academy will deliver computer science and programming classes to Kennedy Catholic High School students beginning in February. Students will receive school credit for the classes.

Classes will be delivered in Seattle App Academy’s state-of the-art classroom in West Seattle. The initial 16-week class will provide an introduction to basic data types, computer logic, and structure in a rich 3-D game environment for students with little to no previous programming experience. With individual coaching, students will complete weekly tasks to build a foundation for more advanced programming concepts and experiences.

In addition, students will participate in four project-oriented workshops on electronic components, circuits, micro-controllers, and robotics. For those students who want a little extra challenge, Seattle App Academy offers two student competitions – The Hacker Cup, for programming, and the Leonardo’s, for building micro-controllers and robotics, which take place in June.

“This is an exciting partnership for Kennedy Catholic,” said Mike Prato, president of Kennedy Catholic High School. “We continually seek opportunities both in and out of the traditional classroom environment to ensure academic success and career preparedness for each of our students. We know that jobs in computer science are appearing at a rate twice the national average and we believe that providing a strong foundation in programming and coding will give our graduates more career and college options.”

“We are delighted to partner with Kennedy Catholic High School,” said Kevin Brown, founder and head coach at Seattle App Academy. “This partnership supports our mission to motivate and inspire students to be technology creators rather than just be technology consumers. We’re very excited about partnering with Kennedy Catholic High School and the possibilities for the future.”
