The King County Council on Monday unanimously approved proposed Ordinance No. 2012 – 0390, which accepts the sale of a surplus portion of the Auburn Park–and–Ride parking lot to the City of Auburn.
King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer of South King County sponsored the proposal.
“This is a win-win for the County, the City of Auburn and local job-producing businesses,” von Reichbauer said. “Our primary responsibility is to create an environment that encourages jobs in South King County, and this ordinance shows how public and private businesses can work together to create jobs in our community.”
The proposal sells a surplus Metro lot to Auburn and eventually Orion Industries. Proceeds of the sale will principally go to Metro Transit, and Orion Industries will be able to continue to grow as a member of the region’s competitive aerospace industry.
Orion Industries sponsors a program that provides on-the-job training in manufacturing and other work for people with disabilities. Earlier in the year, Orion was named one of Boeing’s 16 top aerospace suppliers.
The eventual sale of the property to Orion Industries will enable the company to expand their aerospace facility.
