Algona and Pacific joined Auburn and 11 other cities in contracting with the King County District Court to handle their municipal court services, according to a District Court press release.
The change began on Jan. 1, 2022, according to the District Court. Judge Corinna Harn now presides over cases from both cities at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
The cases now being handled by King County include minor infractions and criminal citations issued by the cities’ respective police departments.
Civil matters like name changes and small claims for residents of Pacific and Algona will still be heard at the King County District Court’s Burien location, according to the release.
“Making the transition to the King County District Court system was in the best interest of the city and our community,” said Algona Mayor David Hill. “We want to thank the King County District Court staff for all their efforts in making the transition as smooth as possible. We also look forward to a long and valuable relationship.”
