For the Reporter
The King County Flood Warning Center has issued a Phase 2 flood alert for the Green River, with only minor flooding expected in rural areas east of Auburn.
The center opened at 9:40 p.m. on Sunday as steady rain brought sharp rises to many King County river levels.
As of 10 p.m. Monday, the Green River at Auburn recorded a flow of 7,000 cubic feet per second (CFS), which is the threshold for a Phase 2 flood alert level. At these flows, only minor flooding in low-lying areas could be expected to occur along the river upstream of Auburn.
Flows on many King County rivers experienced sharp rises Feb. 14 as a result of heaving rainfall, including the Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers, which each reached Phase 3 flood alert levels and saw moderate and widespread flooding.
Center employees will continue to monitor stream gauges and weather reports, and will provide updated information on river conditions as necessary. Real-time river level information is available online at kingcounty.gov/flood.
During river flooding events, King County serves as a clearinghouse for information on flood conditions, operating a recorded message center with continuous updates of river gauge readings and flood phases and other related information.
