The King County Target Zero Task Force, which includes police agencies throughout the county as well as the Washington State Patrol, will be out looking March 14-25 for violations of five of the most prevalent causes of vehicle collisions that result in death and serious injury.

Those five types of collisions include impairment, distraction, speed, seat belts and not yielding to pedestrians, according to a Kent Police media release.

Along with stepped up enforcement, the task force will reach out to the public through the media and social media to raise awareness of these issues and change driver behavior.

“When you look at the data and see how these five factors contribute to traffic deaths and injuries, you immediately see the importance of trying to impact those types of driver behaviors,” said Lt. Kurt Schwan of the Federal Way Police Department, a law enforcement liaison for the task force.

Agencies participating in the campaign include: Auburn, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kirkland, Lake Forest Park, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Normandy Park, Redmond, Sammamish, Seattle, Shoreline, Snoqualmie and Tukwila Police Departments and the Washington State Patrol.
