King County will debut its giant “cube of food” this weekend at KUBE Summer Jam at the White River Amphitheater in Auburn.
The cube is part of King County’s “Recycle Food. It’s Easy to Do” campaign about food scrap recycling at home. The clear acrylic cube, filled with food, measures 3 foot by 3 foot by 4 foot. It is filled with the amount of food scraps generated by an average King County single-family household in a year – approximately 477 pounds.
King County Master Recycler and Composters will accompany the cube and be on site to answer questions, educate the public and hand out compostable bag samples that can be used for food scrap recycling.
The cube will be on display at three events over the next few months: KUBE Summer Jam, Snoqualmie Railroad Days (Aug. 21-22) and Issaquah Salmon Days (Oct. 3-4).
