A kitchen fire severely damaged an Auburn apartment Saturday afternoon, displacing a family of four.
At 4:36 p.m. Valley Regional Fire Authority and Kent Fire Department units were dispatched to the report of a kitchen fire at a four-unit apartment complex in downtown Auburn. The residents of the apartment reported that they tried to extinguish the kitchen fire with an extinguisher but were unsuccessful.
First-arriving units found smoke coming from a ground floor unit. Hose lines were deployed, and an interior fire attack quickly contained the fire to the kitchen area. The apartment sustained smoke, fire and water damage at an estimated $20,000.
The residence of the apartment (family of four) will be unable to occupy their home due to the extensive damage.
The fire is currently under investigation by the South King County Fire Investigation Task Force.
