Levy makes sense

In a stormy economy and a lot of distrust of elected officials, I am writing to support Proposition 1, the Auburn School District level proposal. Increases in taxes and higher wages for teachers and other workers are a fact that many taxpayers argue over each year. But the students of Auburn still need adequate buildings and facilities to have classes in.

This levy addresses multiple repairs and upgrades that to me seems an intelligent and careful use of taxpayer money. I believe many district probably would ask for funds to build new schools at huge cost and say the buildings already that exist are simply inadequate.

The Auburn School Board seems to be committed to a wise use of money and facilities. As a taxpayer, I appreciate this approach and I believe we should support them by passing the levy.

Even if you do not have children in school, public education is still the main source of learning for most students and to continue to support and maintain our buildings will be the most economical method to reduce costs for the future. I hope other voters will agree and mail in their ballots of support on Nov. 3.
